RUTHERFORDTON — For the second consecutive season, the R-S Central Lady Hilltoppers volleyball season ended at the hands of Fred T. Foard. R-S Central put up a good fight Thursday night, but the defending 2A state champions were too much, taking the match in straight sets (25-15, 25-9, 25-23).

SHELBY — For the first 30 minutes of Saturday’s boys basketball contest, it looked as if the R-S Central Hilltoppers were going to leave Shelby High School with a win, but missed free throws and turnovers down the stretch allowed Shelby to overcome an 11-point deficit to win 79-76.
FOREST CITY — It was senior night for the East Rutherford Lady Cavalier volleyball team on Thursday night as the Lady Cavs staved off a pesky Shelby squad to come away with a straight sets victory (25-14, 25-21, 25-21).
AVONDALE — It was opening night for the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA) girls and boys basketball teams on Wednesday and the Lady Gryphons pulled off a historic victory, handing Lincoln Charter its first conference loss since Jan. 12, 2018.
RUTHERFORDTON — It was the season opener for the R-S Central and East Rutherford boys basketball teams on Tuesday night at “The Palace” as the Hilltoppers, led by Tyrese Miller’s double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds), routed the Cavaliers, 76-32.

AVONDALE — Fresh off a win over Bessemer City on Tuesday night, the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA) Lady Gryphons hoped to make it two in a row on Wednesday night, but the Highland Tech Rams were too much, besting TJCA in three sets (25-11, 25-6, 25-11).
HENRIETTA — The CHASE Lady Trojans volleyball team faced a stiff test in East Gaston on Tuesday night and despite a valiant effort, the Lady Trojans were defeated in straight sets (25-12, 25-18, 25-10).
HENRIETTA — In their final matchup of the season, the East Rutherford Lady Cavalier volleyball team bested CHASE in four sets on Monday night at “The Farm,” (25-15, 25-13, 14-25, 25-14).
HENRIETTA — CHASE High School will have a new head wrestling coach as Taylor Hoyle is set to take over the reins of the program, replacing Daniel Hoyle.
