GASTONIA — The Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA) Gryphons hit the road for the first time on Monday night and all three teams (varsity boys, varsity girls and JV boys) picked up wins over Highland Tech.

Varsity Boys: TJCA 88 Highland Tech 44Adonis King led the charge for TJCA (1-1, 1-1 Southern Piedmont Conference (SPC)) on Monday with a 23-point, 14-rebound performance to guide the Gryphons to their first win of the season, 88-44, over Highland Tech (0-2, 0-2 SPC). AJ Camper poured in 20 points and Isaiah Hicks dropped in 15 as the Gryphons turned a 12-point halftime lead into a 33-point lead after three quarters, sparked by a 35-point third quarter. The Gryphons hit the road again on Tuesday night to face Bessemer City.

Varsity Girls: TJCA 49 Highland Tech 33The Lady Gryphons improved to 2-0 on the season with a 16-point victory, led by 14 points from Margaret Schweppe and 12 points from Kathleen Brown.

TJCA (2-0, 2-0 SPC) built an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and that would be more than enough as the Lady Gryphons outscored the Lady Rams (0-2, 0-2 SPC) in each quarter.

TJCA traveled to Bessemer City on Tuesday.

JV Boys: TJCA 38 Highland Tech 30The TJCA JV boys squad also earned their first win of the season, defeating Highland Tech 38-30 behind nine points from Kaden Fenner.

The Gryphons staked claim to a 9-5 lead after the first quarter and that lead would hold throughout the night.

TJCA battled Bessemer City on Tuesday.
