FOREST CITY — A local woman was killed Thursday after she was thrown from a single-vehicle crash.

Sabrina Spurlock, 27, of Forest City, died in the 12:26 p.m. wreck on the eastbound ramp leading from U.S. Highway 74 A to U.S. 74. Spurlock was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy at a high rate of speed when she took the curving ramp. She ran off the right side of road, down an embankment before overturning the SUV. Spurlock was ejected from the vehicle, according to trooper J.K. Henderson of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Spurlock was not wearing a seatbelt.

Witnesses told troopers Spurlock was driving as fast as 80 miles per hour when she lost control, Henderson said.

It was reported the victim was heading home to retrieve money so she and her husband could take a lunch break together.

The crash caused the ramp to be closed for about two hours.
