RUTHERFORDTON — A man is in jail after he broke into a residence and killed a woman’s dog.
Thomas Bryan Swink, 42, of Rutherfordton, was arrested Wednesday night on charges of felonious first-degree burglary, cruelty to animals and shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
Swink had been visiting a woman Tuesday evening at a residence on Misty Lane in Rutherfordton. At some point Swink stepped on the woman’s dog, a pit-bull mix, with the dog then attacking Swink’s leg. Swink threatened the dog before leaving the residence, Sheriff Chris Francis said.
An armed Swink later returned and as the woman locked the door, he forced his way inside and fatally shot the dog, Francis said.
Swink was jailed under a $140,000 secured bond.
