SPINDALE—In Rutherford County, more than 100 people have voted early in this year's municipal elections. Early Voting continues this week through Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Saturday, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
“As of mid-day today, we have had 101 people come out to vote early,” Dawn Lovelace, Rutherford County elections director, said Monday. “Overall, voting has been slow. But this was expected. This was not unusual at all.”
Voter turnout is typically not high in non-presidential election years with no state or county-wide elections. Only voters who reside in municipalities are eligible to vote.
Early voting takes place only at the Board of Elections office in Spindale. According to Lovelace, so far the highest voter turnout has been among Forest City voters.
Forest City is the largest town with the largest number of potential voters, and the town also has competitive races for the town board.
“We have had no problems with the voting so far,” she added. “And no one has had to wait in line.”
Saturday is the last day of Early Voting. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 2.
