FOREST CITY — Friendship Automotive Enterprises has purchased McCurry-Deck.
McCurry-Deck is now among Friendship’s expanding number of automotive dealerships. The purchases was finalized Tuesday followed by an official announcement Wednesday.
“This is thrilling to add Chevrolet/Buick/GMC to our family of dealerships”, said Dustin Walters, chief operating officer of Friendship Automotive Enterprises. “It has always been a company goal to include General Motors in our line of business because of the connection the company has to our family. My great grandfather founded Walters Chevrolet in 1926, so we are coming full circle in 2021.”
The new name will be Friendship Chevrolet/GMC/Buick.
This is not the first time Friendship has made a purchase from McCurry-Deck, In June 2014, Friendship purchased McCurry-Deck Nissan.
The acquisition, however, ends a long-running dealership in McCurry Deck. McCurry-Deck started in 1966, with Buick after several years being in the used car business. The business started as McCurry Used Cars by Leonard McCurry. Kenneth Deck joined the business and a short time later became a partner. The name was changed to McCurry-Deck in 1966. In 1976, McCurry-Deck moved to its present location. It was the only business between Isothermal Community College and the Tri-City Mall.
McCurry-Deck offered Buick Pontiac and GMC models since 1976 to 2008. It also sold Cadillac for 10 years after acquiring the franchise from Sparkies. The dealership added Chevrolet in 2013.
“I am very excited about joining Friendship Automotive having known Mitch Walters for the past seven years and believe we will be able to grow even more with being acquired. As part of our agreement, I am staying on as general manager and look forward to seeing our many past customers,” said Paul Deck.
