RUTHERFORDTON — Businesses operating video sweepstakes machines must stop allowing them after the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled Friday (Feb. 11) the machines are illegal.

“They held that electronic gaming machines are illegal under North Carolina law even if they require some ‘skill or dexterity’ input from the player. If you are operating these machines in your business, please discontinue doing so,” District Attorney Ted Bell wrote in a letter Monday (Feb. 14) addressed to local businesses.
