Rested Hilltoppers traveling to Polk County

R-S Central football is riding a nine-game losing streak dating back to the 2012 season. Fortunately for the Hilltoppers, tonight's opponent is the last team they managed to beat — Polk County.

The hilltoppers enjoyed an off-week last week giving them an extra seven days to prepare for the Wolverines (0-2).

And after an 8-7 loss to McDowell that featured six Hilltoppers turnovers, Central needed every hour to correct fundamental mistakes.

Head coach Mike Cheek hopes to get a better passing performance from quarterback Jay'len Hollis who completed just 3-of-10 passes for 43 yards in the McDowell loss. Dryer conditions in Columbus tonight should prove beneficial since the Hilltoppers (0-1) battled sloppy conditions two weeks ago.

A 0% chance of rain is equally appealing to the Central running backs who failed to find their footing against McDowell.

Matt Atchley, who scored the game-winning touchdown against Polk County last season, still managed 103 yards on 20 carries against McDowell and will likely be a difference maker tonight alongside tailbacks Rashaun and Desmond Whitesides.

Luckily, the new 4-2-5 defensive scheme for Central didn't have to prepare for former Polk County quarterback Alec Philpott who rushed and passed for over 1,000 yards in his junior and senior season with the Wolverines.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Polk County High School.
