NC's Brunstetter won't run for Hagan's seat
Another North Carolina state senator says he won't enter the race to try to defeat Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan next year.
Sen. Pete Brunstetter of Forsyth County announced Thursday his decision to pass on seeking the Republican nomination in the spring. He says the opportunity to shape federal policy is enticing but the task to reclaim a GOP majority in the U.S. Senate must fall to someone else.
Brunstetter's decision comes three days after state Senate leader Phil Berger said he wants to remain in the General Assembly. Berger had been weighing a U.S. Senate bid for months.
Four Republicans have now publicly announced their candidacies for U.S. Senate, including House Speaker Thom Tillis.
Former U.S. ambassador and Raleigh attorney Jim Cain said last week he was undecided.
