Delayed NC jobless data coming 2 months at once
An unexpected delay in reporting whether North Carolina's unemployment rate is up or down is coming to an end with new information.
The state Commerce Department on Friday reports the unemployment rates for September and October. Data for both months are being released together because of delays related to the federal government shutdown.
North Carolina's unemployment rate of 8.7 percent in August was one of the highest in the country. The U.S. unemployment rate in October was 7.3 percent.
The state and the country have seen unemployment rates fall through most of this year. The trend has come in large part because many people stopped looking for a job.
