For over a week the citizens of Rutherford County supported the Rutherfordton-Chase 50/70 All-Stars from over 2,600 miles away as they played in the Intermediate World Series in Livermore, Calif. Tonight they’ll get a chance to show their support in person.

Businesses everywhere will display welcome signs and blue balloons for the local team that made it home late Tuesday night. The team will be recognized tonight at the Rutherfordton Town Council meeting where they will like adopt a resolution in honor of the team.

Following the council meeting,  a public recognition will take place at the Rutherford County Courthouse lawn at 8 p.m.

“To have a team represent Rutherford County and Rutherfordton so well is unimaginable,” Rutherfordton town Councilmen and District 1 Little League Administrator Terry Cobb said. “I can’t wait to hear all the stories that the boys are bringing back with them.”

The recognitions give the public a chance to connect with a team that they could only watch on the internet and read about in the newspaper.

“We watched every play,” Cobb said. “We jumped, hollered, yelled and clapped as if we were there.”

It’s also a chance to recognize the youth of Rutherford County.

“Rutherford County has great citizens and these kids are our future leaders,” Cobb said. “When these kids grow up and decide where to spend their lives, I hope they remember this recognition and come back to lead this county.”
