Hendersonville boys holding off TJCA
Rishad Felton led a high powered Hendersonville attack as he poured in 28 points in three quarters of play as the Bearcats led Thomas Jefferson 72-28 at press time.
Hendersonville began the game on an 8-0 run highlighted by a Raymond Reid. Chris Mintz broke the run on a layup, but they had trouble solving the constant pressure of the Bearcats.
Felton went on a personal 8-0 run that included two 3-pointers.
Efrim Borders finally broke the pressure and scored on a layup, but Reid and Felton hit consecutive threes as the visitors led 22-4.
Borders did manage another layup late in the quarter but by that time the tally was 29-6.
The second quarter was more of the same as the Gryphons had no answer for Felton who hit two more 3-pointers to start the second quarter.
From that point, Hendersonville went to their bench and the Gryphons began to make a slight run from the foul line. Mintz knocked in four straight from the free-throw line at one point.
After one such make, Justus Freeland stole the inbounds pass and converted the layup. That was the only field goal in the quarter as they trailed 44-16 at the break.
Felton continued his hot shooting coming out of the locker room, knocking down his first three shots from 3-point range.
TJCA tried to get some offense going on the inside as Mintz and Nathaniel Devon combined to score four straight points, but they couldn’t keep up with Hendersonville, tailing 72-28 at the end of the third quarter.
