Lady Cavs season ends at Pisgah
East Rutherford softball made it to the third round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs with close, dramatic wins in the first and second round. Unfortunately for the Lady Cavaliers, they were on the wrong end of a one-run loss Friday at Pisgah, 1-0.
Savannah Davis pitched allowed just three hits on the night but they were well-timed for the Bears ((18-4-1) as a leadoff triple in the fourth by Pisgah’s Nadia Hudson followed by a Callie Kuykendall sacrifice fly put the Bears up 1-0.
Kuykendall stifled the East Rutherford bats allowing six hits and keeping them off the board.
“It was a great defensive game for us,” East Rutherford head coach Julie Powell said. “We left a lot of runners on (six), just couldn’t push one across.”
Davis was solid for the Cavaliers (16-6) as she struck out four. Sheridan Pressley’s first-inning double and Taylor Galyean’s third-inning single were Pisgah’s only other hits off the young pitcher, who was pulled with two outs in the sixth after issuing her second walk of the day. Reliever Klinnin Carson got the next batter out to end the threat.
“I hate it for these girls,” Powell said. “They’ve been such a good team with such a good team attitude and improved so much. I just hate for it to end for them like that.”
