Hilltoppers win on the road

EAST FLAT ROCK — In a game meant for Wednesday night but pushed to Thursday, the R-S Central baseball team traveled west and took down the East henderson Eagles 6-4.

Conner Haley started on the mound for Central but Will Owens came in for 4 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win.

Dustin McEntire led the offensive charge for Central slugging two doubles and driving in two runs.

Central returns to the diamond tonight to take on Bessemer City. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Rutherfordton.

Gryphons edged by Bessemer City

BESSEMER CITY — Thomas Jefferson got a stellar performance on the mound from Caleb Bishop, but two unearned runs proved costly as the Gryphons fell 2-1 on the road at Bessemer City Thursday night.

Bishop finished the night allowing just five hits while striking out 14 Yellow Jacket batters.

The Martin brother, Mason and McKinnon, paced TJCA at the plate. Mason went 2-3 with a double and scored the only TJCA run while McKinnon laced a double.

The Gryphons return home to face WCAA today. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
