Gryphons show out at States
Saturday afternoon the Thomas Jefferson Gryphons sent a number of female swimmer to the State Championships in Cary.
Though they finished the day without any hardware, the ladies had plenty to be proud of.
Ann Huston qualified for the finals session in the 100 Butterfly. In the consolation final she swam a best time of 1:01.60 and won the Consolation Final for a 9th Place finish in the state.
Lindsey Martelle qualified for the finals in both the 100 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke. In the consolation final of the 100 Freestyle she swam a best time of 57.95, moved up a place and finished in 11th place. In the 100 Breaststroke she swam a lifetime best time of 1:09.74 in her morning swim, and in the final finished 6th place in the state.
The Women’s 200 Medley Relay (Leah Lineberry, Martelle, Huston, Stephanie Lola) qualified for the consolation final on the back of a fantastic morning swim. Each lady on the relay beat their individual time by half a second, and the team qualified 10th, making the consolation final. In the evening finals, the team finished in 11th place, the first time a TJCA relay team has ever placed at the state meet.
