Lady Gryphons throttled by North Henderson

Dec. 12, 2013 @ 06:01 AM

To say the Lady Gryphons of Thomas Jefferson struggled on the offensive end of the floor would be  a vast understatement. They only managed five field goals in 32 minutes of game action in a 61-10 loss to North Henderson.

North Henderson opened the game on a on a 7-0 run — all off TJCA turnovers. Gracie Hollifield ended the run with a foul-line jumper but that’s the only points the Lady Gryphons scored in the first quarter. The turnover fest continued as North Henderson led 16-2 at the end of first quarter.

That lead grew to 25-2 before TJCA (0-3) called a timeout with 5:04 left before the half. That stoppage did little to stop the Lady Knights.

Alyssa Edwards had the only points in the quarter for TJCA as they trailed 39-4 at the half.

Things did not improve for TJCA in the second half as the Lady Knights’ lead ballooned  to 49-4 midway through the third quarter. TJCA did not tally a single point in the frame and trailed 55-4 heading into the fourth.

Rachel Tevis did connect on a baseline jumper and Alethia Griffin converted a fast break layup for a 4-0 TJCA run late in the game.

Edwards capped the scoring with a put back to account for the 61-10 final.

Edwards led TJCA with four points

The Lady Gryphons return to action today as they travel to former conference foe Hendersonville.
