Hilltoppers fall at Franklin
Despite only being down one at half, the R-S Central boys could not fend off a late rally and fell 69-55 at Franklin in the first round of the 3A state basketball tournament Monday night.
"In this situation, you are one and done and we weren't able to overcome their size," said R-S head coach Greg Wright.
The Hilltoppers kept the game close in the first half, only down by one at halftime.
However, in the second half, Franklin started to pull away thanks in large part to connecting on short baskets. The Hilltoppers, who hit the mark in the first half, struggled to connect in the second.
"They made some shots and went up double-figures," Wright said. "We cut it back but we couldn't get close enough.
"It was just a back and fourth game."
The loss ends R-S Central's season with a 13-14 mark overall. In the South Mountain Athletic Conference, the Hilltoppers finished 5-7, good enough for fourth-place.
