Alyssa Edwards led the charge for the Lady Gryphons volleyball team as they snapped a four-year home losing streak.

Thursday, Sept. 5 the Lady Gryphons earned their first home win in nearly four years and their first conference win as they downed Highland Tech and followed it with a win over Pine Lake Prep this past Tuesday.

Edwards led the way with strong play at the net and countless big plays to help the Lady Gryphons to a 3-5 overall record including 2-4 in the Southern Piedmont Conference.


Andrew Simmons, R-S Central soccer

Hilltoppers soccer earned two big wins this past week. The first win came over East Burke on Monday, but Andrew Simmons, Central's leading scorer, almost single-handidly defeated county rival East Rutherford with a hat trick in Central's 4-0 win over the Cavaliers.

Simmon's teased his strong week with a two-goal, two-assist performance in a 4-2 win over Kings Mountain on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The Hilltoppers (6-2, 4-2 SMAC) are riding a three-game winning streak going into Monday's conference clash at Burns.
