Lady Hilltoppers hit the road

R-S Central softball took advantage of playing in front of their own last Friday with a 3-2 first-round win over Owen, but tonight they’ll take their show on the road to Fred T. Foard in hopes of extending their playoff run.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Central head coach Melvin Digh said of the match-up. “Foard is a good team so we’ll show up, play the best we can and hope for the best.”

The Hilltoppers we’re the beneficiaries of a handful of Erwin errors on Friday but hope to score runs the conventional way tonight.

“We’ll go in with a game plan,” Digh said. “Their pitcher throws a lot of strikes and works outside. We know what we want to accomplish so we just hope we can execute our game plan.”

With the lack of offense that plagued the Hilltoppers Friday, their defense behind pitchers Shelby Smith and Makayla Crain keeps opposing teams from running away or even catching up. And of course, they’ll need more of the same tonight.

“With our pitching they’ll put a lot of balls in play and we hope they’ll be right at people so we can make plays and keep them from scoring too many runs,” Digh said.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Fred T. Foard.
