Orphanos earns Pitcher of the Week honors
The Forest City Owls may have finished the year with their worst record in team history at 17-32, but late-season addition Chris Orphanos lessened the blow earning the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week award as awarded by the Coastal Plain League.
Orphanos pitched 121⁄3 innings last week and struck out 21 batters, 15 of which came July 30 at Florence in a complete game shutout win for Forest City, one shy of the CPL record for strikeouts in a single game.
Orphanos, a junior right-hander at Mount Olive College, added six more strikeouts in 31⁄3 inning of relief duty against Asheboro just three days later.
After joining the Owls towards the tail-end of the season, Orphanos finished the season 2-0 boasting a 1.35 ERA and striking out 35 batters in just 262⁄3 innings.
