Schuler and Forgey Join Owls from St. Joseph’s
The Forest City Owls announced the signing of LHP Stephen Schuler and OF Colin Forgey from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.
Schuler is a 6-0 and 150 pound pitcher who will give the Owls a strong lefty presence out of the bullpen. As a sophomore last season, he went 5-2 with 3.19 ERA. Schuler struck out 30 in 42.1 innings pitched while holding opposing batters to a .220 batting average.
"The ability to bring in a talented left handed pitcher out of the bullpen is ideal,” said Owls manager David Tufo. “That is what we have in Schuler. He will be able to create match-up problems and further strengthen our already powerful bullpen.”
A player that Tufo is very familiar with is outfielder Colin Forgey. Forgey actually transferred to St. Joesph’s from Menlo College, the current college where Tufo is an assistant coach. At 5-11 and 185 pounds, he was one of the top hitters at Menlo College last season, hitting .297 with a team high 45 RBIs, seven triples and seven home runs. He posted a .544 slugging percentage and also finished second on the team in stolen bases with 14.
“Forgey is a great competitor who I am very familiar with,” said Tufo. “He will give us some pop and speed anywhere we put him in the lineup. He is versatile and will bring a veteran presence to the clubhouse.”
Last season St. Joesph’s finished 25-32 overall, but had a 13-10 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference. With four players already committed from Dayton, the Owls now have a total of six players from the A10 Conference.
