East Rutherford’s Rachel Camp knocked Cetera DeGraffenreid from the 2A regional record book Tuesday night.

Franklin, though, got a near-record performance from Saarh Henson and found a way to defeat the Cavaliers 80-76 in the NCHSAA 2A West semifinal at Fleming Gymnasium on the campus of UNC Greensboro.

Franklin improved to 24-2 while East Rutherford ends the season at 23-3 Camp scored 42 points to top DeGraffenreid’s 2A regional record of 41 set in 2007 but wasn’t the same after taking a hard fall with 2:23 to go.

Henson almost matched her with 39 and had more of an impact down the stretch.

Camp’s last point came on a free throw with 1:23 to go and put the Cavs up 73-72.  Franklin scored eight of the next 10 points, with Henson providing four and a 3-pointer by Kaitlin Bishop putting the Panthers ahead for goof at 77-75 with 16 seconds left.

Camp lost possession trying to drive to the bucket on East Rutherford’s next possession and then fouled Vanessa Agrusa, who hit one of two foul shots. Franklin then fouled Shay Dewberry trying to prevent East from getting off a 3-point shot. Dewberry hit just one of those, the last of her 17 points, and Henson hit two free throws for the final margin.

East led 14-9 after the first quarter and 33-32  at the half. Franklin opened the third quarter with eight straight  points but Camp scored 18 of East’s 26 points in the period, helping the Cavs take a 59-52 lead into the fourth.

East ended the period on 14-2 run, with Camp scoring 10 of the points.

The Lady Cavaliers finish the season at 23-3.
