Gryphons beat by Rosman at home

Rosman hands Thomas Jefferson 26-14 loss to end season

A season that started with six straight wins has ended with six straight losses for the Thomas Jefferson Gryphons.

TJCA couldn’t stop Rosman quarterback Duran Scruggs in the second half as he scored two touchdowns to lead the Tigers to the 26-14 come-from-behind win.

It was an inauspicious beginning for the Thomas Jefferson as Will McCraw fumbled on the first play from scrimmage at the 13-yard line.

The Griffs defense responded as they turned in four consecutive stops behind the line of scrimmage.

After punts by both teams, TJCA took over on their 19-yard line.

Four McCraw carries later, TJCA was at the Tiger goal line.  Mac Martin plunged over for the score and Stephen Snyder booted the extra point to give TJCA a 7-0 lead.

Rosman drove inside the Gryphon red zone to start the second quarter but Coty Flynn made a thunderous hit to force a turnover on downs.

The Tigers finally found the endzone with just over three minutes left in the quarter on a 1-yard plunge by Caleb Rice. The two-point conversion was no good to leave the score a 7-6 at the half.

Rosman received the opening kickoff, but promptly fumbled.

The Griffs could not move the ball and gave the ball back to the Tigers. After a three-and-out, Efrim Borders caught the ensuing punt on the near sideline cut inside and outran the coverage to the pylon for a 66 yard touchdown return. The kick was good as the home team led 14-7.

Duran Scruggs then took over the game.

The elusive quarterback popped outside and raced 57 yards for a score. The two-point conversion was good to tie the game at 14-14 midway through the quarter.

Scruggs moved his team in position again with another long run at heading into heading into the fourth quarter.

Rice scored on the first play of the quarter to make the tally 20-14.

After a Gryphon turnover, Scruggs scored again this time from 30 yards out with 3:38 left in the contest to put Rosman up 26-14.

TJCA mounted one final drive in the contest, as Martin completed a long pass to Borders. But Martin was picked off on the next play, looking for brother Mason in the endzone to end the season for the Griffs.
