Cavaliers edge Central, 5-4
It was a late night for county tennis as East Rutherford and Central played to the final doubles match before the Cavaliers claimed a 5-4 win, and ultimately, the county championship.
With the team score knotted at 4-4, the duo of Landon Holtzclaw and Quad Kelly pulled out a 10-7 win against Riley Buchanan and Shawn Hines to secure the win.
Singles winners for East Rutherford included Holtzclaw over Adam Burnett (6-4, 6-1) and Ryan Lynch over Riley Buchanan (6-3, 6-2).
Central singles winners were R.J. Aiken over Mason Jolley (6-1, 6-3), Michael Hensley (6-4, 4-6, 10-7) and Hines over Kelly (7-6, 6-4).
In doubles Lynch/Lindsay joined Holtzclaw/Kelly with a win over Burnett/Stuker (10-3) while Aiken/Hensley earned a win for Central over Jolley/Bray (10-6).
Central tennis hosts Freedom Monday and East returns to the courts Tuesday at home against Patton. Both matches are set to begin at 4 p.m.
