GWU’s Denzel Clarke tabbed Big South Men’s Soccer Attacking Player of the Week
Gardner-Webb forward Denzel Clarke has been tabbed the Big South Men’s Soccer Attacking Player of the Week for games played the first week of the season, the League announced today.
Clarke, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., totaled four goals to lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 1-1-0 record last weekend. He got his 2013 season started with a hat trick in Gardner-Webb’s 5-4 overtime win against Wofford on Aug. 30. Two days later against Georgia Southern, Clarke posted Gardner-Webb’s lone goal in the contest. The hat trick was GWU’s first since the 2008 season.
His season goal total of four scores already this season, matches his season-high back in his freshman campaign in 2011, when he was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team.
This is the first weekly conference honor for Clarke.
Gardner-Webb (1-1-0) will host the USC Upstate Spartans on Wednesday night, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Runnin’ Bulldogs home opener.
