Lady Trojans edged by Kings Mountain
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Chase softball had a 7-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh at Kings Mountain, but the Lady Mountaineers mounted a six-run comeback to steal an 8-6 win over the Trojans.
Ashley Brown led the Trojans at the plate with a 3-3 night.
Chase is back in action Tuesday as they host Patton at 4:30 p.m.
MARION — East Rutherford softball suffered a tough loss at McDowell falling on the short end of a 7-3 score.
Jenna Carter and Emily Dotson each went 2-4 with an RBI for the Lady Cavs.
East is back on the diamond Tuesday against county rival R-S Central at East Rutherford. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
RUTHERFORDTON — R-S Central tennis lost to Patton, 7-2, Thursday afternoon at home.
Central’s two wins were both singles matches played by R.J. Aiken and Michael Hensley.
Central returns to action on Monday when they travel to Kings Mountain. Matches are set to begin at 4 p.m.
Gryphons boys and girls place second
BESSEMER CITY — The Thomas Jefferson boys and girls track and field teams finished second in an eight-team meet held at Bessemer City Thursday afternoon.
TJCA’s top male finishers included Mason Fenner who finished first in the high jump and third in the 400-meter dash. Efrim Borders finished second in the 100 meters, Joseph Thelen won the 300-meter hurdles, Joseph Pate finished second in the 300-meter hurdles, Chris Brassell finished third in the 3,200 meters and the 4x400 relay team came in first place.
For the Lady Gryphons, Aly Bidwell finished first in the shot put and discus, Rachel Tevis was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump, Alethia Griffin finished third in the 400-meter dash, Megan Watson was third in the 300-meter hurdles, Aman Braggs finished second in the 200 meters and thr 4x100 relay team finished second.
TJCA’s next meet is March, 15 at Polk County.
