Lady Hilltoppers fall to Hickory

HICKORY – R-S Central Lady hilltoppers head coach Darius Fuller knew his girls were facing a tough task Wednesday night against Hickory, and after 32 minutes, Central was just four points shy of a third-round berth in the state playoffs losing to by a 64-60 final.

“We played really well but we missed 17 free throws,” Central head coach Darius Fuller said. “Losing by one of the top-ranked teams in the state by just four points says a lot about our team.”

Te’Ja Twitty led the Hilltoppers with 22 points while Alyssia Watkins and Taylor Miller added 14 and 13 respectively.

Central finishes the season 17-11.

“I’m pleased with how we played this season,” Fuller said.

Lady Cavaliers finish season at Pisgah

CANTON – After being tied with Pisgah at halftime, The East Rutherford Lady Cavaliers closed the book on the 2013 season with a 73-62 loss to the Lady Bears in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday night.

“We tied it up 7-8 times but could never take the lead,” East head coach Larry Ross said. “[Pisgah] shot lights out from the free-throw line.”

Rachel Camp led the Cavs with 38 points while Shay Dewberry added 17.

East finished the season 20-8.

“We had a great season,” Ross said.
