Area hoops postponed

Another winter dreamscape has created another scheduling nightmare for area basketball teams.

Thomas Jefferson was slated to host Cherryville tonight, but the wintery weather forced administrators to move the games to Monday. The boys game is a winner-take-all affair for the Southern Piedmont regular season title as the Gryphons and Ironmen each have just one conference loss.

R-S Central and Burns were set to clash in Rutherfordton Friday night, but school cancellations in both Rutherford and Cleveland counties pushed the game back. A makeup date has not been determined.

As far as the county matchup between Chase and East Rutherford, it could still happen Friday afternoon at Chase High.

If the principals for each school agree to play and receive to the approval from the Rutherford County Schools Superintendent Janet Mason, the school could start games as early as 3 p.m.

Chase's games against East Burke originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11 have been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 17.
