With the high school basketball season coming to an end for the South Mountain Athletic Conference (SMAC), the conference announced its 2014 All-Conference team.

East Rutherford and R-S Central each landed two boys and two girls on their respective teams while East Rutherford’s Rachel Camp was named the female Player of the Year and her head coach, Larry Ross, was named the conference’s women’s Coach of the Year.

Ross led the Lady Cavaliers on a 22-game winning streak after starting the year 1-2. The Lady Cavs posted a 15-1 conference record and bowed out of the state playoffs after losing to Franklin, 80-76, in the Western Regional semifinals.

Joining Camp on the women’s All-SMAC team is fellow Cavalier Shay Dewberry and R-S Central Lady Hilltoppers Tia Bristol and Te’Ja Twitty.

Camp finished the regular season averaging over 27 points a game and set a new record for points scored (42) in a regional playoff game in East Rutherford’s loss to Franklin in the Western Region semifinal. Camp, Rutherford County’s all-time leading scorer, also surpassed 3,000 career points this season.

Dewberry averaged 11.3 points during her senior season at East Rutherford (23-2, 15-1 SMAC) en route to All-Conference honors.

Bristol and Twitty paced the Lady Hilltoppers (9-15, 6-10 SMAC) this season as Bristol averaged a double-double with 15.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and Twitty had a monstrous sophomore campaign averaging 19.5 points and 14.2 rebounds per game.

The East Rutherford boys (21-6, 13-3 SMAC) also made it to the Western Regional semifinals behind All-SMAC performers Devonte Boykins and Travis Waldroup-Rodriguez.

Boykins averaged 18.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game during his senior season while Waldroup-Rodriguez averaged 21.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest in his final season as a Cavalier.

R-S Central’s boys (13-11, 7-9 SMAC) exited the state playoffs in the first round but got stellar senior seasons from Rashaun Whitesides and Jay’len Hollis.

Whitesides averaged 17 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while Hollis wasn’t far behind with 16.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
