Gardner-Webb fell victim to a 20-3 run by High Point in the first half, and would not fully recover in a 70-64 road loss to the Panthers.

High Point (7-8, 2-1 Big South) got 15 points each from John Brown and Adam Weary and 12 points from Allan Chaney to pick up the win. The Panthers finished at 58.7 percent from the floor as a team (27-of-46), the first team to shoot above 50 percent against the Runnin’ Bulldogs all season.

Gardner-Webb (9-8, 1-2 Big South) knocked down five of its first seven shots and proving to be the aggressor early on both ends to stake itself to a 13-8 lead.

Gardner-Webb went cold for a stretch for a stretch after that, however, and High Point took advantage.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs missed 10 of their next 11 shots from the floor and had three turnovers that helped spark a 20-3 run for the Panthers. By the time the four-minute media timeout rolled around, High Point led 30-20 and Gardner-Webb had made just 3-of-15 field goals since taking its early five-point advantage.

Donta Harper and Max Landis keyed a mini-run by Gardner-Webb to stem the tide late in the half, with a Harper follow shot cutting High Point’s lead to 30-25 with 2:08 left in the half and Landis’ second jumper of the half cutting the lead to 30-27 with 1:30 on the clock.
