GWU rounds out recruiting class
Gardner-Webb signed two post players to wrap up its men’s basketball recruiting class for the coming season.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs signed center L’Hassane Niangane (Kinsasha, Democratic Republic of Congo / Chalon France) and forward Brandon Miller (Orlando, Fla. / Orlando Christian Prep) to fill out its 2014-2015 roster.
Niangane (6-10, 240) most recently spent time with the Chalon U21 club in France, a team that posted a 27-3 record in 2012-13. Niangane was born in Kinsasha, Democratic Republic of Congo, but spent much of his life in France.
“L’Hassane is a long, athletic big man who can have a major impact for us in the post,” said Gardner-Webb head coach Tim Craft, who is coming off an 18-win debut season with the Runnin’ Bulldogs. “He is blessed with great instincts on the defensive end. We don’t have the opportunity to bring in post players with his ability very often. He’s a very exciting addition for the future of our program.”
Miller (6-6, 250) has enrolled at Gardner-Webb for the second session of summer school in advance of his freshman year in Boiling Springs and is another big body on the roster for the Runnin’ Bulldogs. He played at Orlando Christian (Fla.) Prep, helping that squad to another state title this past season, despite battling a series of injuries.
“Brandon has played organized basketball for just a few seasons, so his upside is tremendous,” said Craft. “His physical tools, combined with a strong work ethic, will allow him to become a very good player in the Big South Conference.”
Gardner-Webb opens the 2014-2015 season on Friday, Nov. 14 at LSU.
