The Rutherford County Post 423 baseball team battled back from a 4-0 deficit to send Wednesday’s game with Hendersonville into extra innings tied at 6-6, but Post 77 scored six runs in the top of the 11th to deny Rutherford County its first win of the season, beating Post 423 by a 12-8 final.
Heavy rains suspended the Forest City Owls’ season opener versus the Martinsville Mustangs Tuesday night. The Owls were leading 3-2 and had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning when play was halted. The game will be resumed at that point as part of a doubleheader when Forest City visits Martinsville next Monday.

Summer baseball is back in Rutherford County as American Legion Post 423 took the field against Haywood County’s Post 47 on Saturday night at McNair Field. What appeared to be a blowout in the making turned into a close game as Haywood County earned a 13-10 victory over Rutherford County in a slugfest.
