County track teams close season
R-S Central, East Rutherford and Chase closed out the 2013 Track and Field season Tuesday evening with the SMAC Championships held at Shelby High.
Chase led the county schools in the boy’s half of the meet finishing in third place with first-place finishes from Josh Parks in the 800-meter run and the 4x800 realy team consisting of Parks, Juan Castrellon, Andrew Mech and Jacob Wise.
Bryston Hill contributed to the Chase total with a second-place finish in the 400-meter run while Brett Farris finshed third in the Shot Put and Discus.
The Chase 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams also claimed third-place finishes.
Kollin Byers earned the conference title in the Shot Put for East Rutherford as they came in seventh overall.
Jay’len Hollis led the way for R-S Central’s sixth-place finish with third-place finish in the High Jump while Jared Foster-Smith finished fifth in the Shot Put and Discus.
Eli Shipman, Ryan Hill, Gabriel Robinson and Kyle Clark finished second in the 4x800-meter relay for the Hilltoppers.
R-S Central led the county girls with a fourth-place finish led by Candice Simmons who was named Field MVP with a win in the High Jump and Triple Jump to go along a fourth-place finish in the 400-mewter dash and fifth place in the Long Jump.
Lauren Revis finished third in the High Jump, second in the 800, 1600, and 3200-meter run. Samantha Alderson finished fourth in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Catherin O’Neil finished fifth in the 800 and 1600-meter run. Kennedy Whitesides finished fifth in the 400-meter dash and Maia Francis finished fourth in the 200-meter run and sixth in the 400-meter dash.
Chase came in sixth powered by a second-place finish by Zhane Watkins in the Long Jump and a third-place finish by Harley Cline in the 100-meter hurdles.
