14 local players named All-District

Postseason honors continue to pour in for local softball players. The North Carolina Softball Coaches Association (NCSCA) released its all-district selections Tuesday which included 14 players from Rutherford County on the District 8 list.

East Rutherford's Savannah Davis led the charge for Rutherford County players earning District 8 Pitcher of the year after striking out 270 batters and posting a 27-4 record en route to winning MVP honors at the 2A State Championships.

The state champion East Rutherford Lady Cavaliers also landed senior catcher Emily Dotson and senior shortstop Raven Gray on the 2A All-District list.
Dotson finished the year with a .475 average while Gray batted .522 and stole 35 bases.

Chase High School put six players on the list included it's only senior in 2014, Devyn Gowan. Other Lady Trojans on the list were Ashley Brown, Dakota Reid, Bekah Hopkins, Maggie Robbins and Haley Wood.

R-S Central had a trio of players make the list including senior pitcher Makayla Crain, junior catcher Makayla Crawford and sophomore outfielder Katie McEntire.

Thomas Jefferson saw its name on the 1A All-District list for District 8 for the first time in program history this season with two honorees.

Sophomore pitcher Brianna Kale and freshman catcher Taylor Hardin both garnered all-district honors. Kale and Hardin along with freshman all-conference shortstop Emily Allred paint a bright future for Lady Gryphons softball.
