Cheers and Jeers
Cheers ... to Forest City Town Planner Danielle Withrow, and Cooperative Extension Agents Jeff Bradley and Jan McGuinn for coming up with constructive ideas for establishing a permanent home for the Rutherford County Farmer’s market.
Jeers … to County Commissioner Bo Richard, for declining to attend the Rutherford County Airport Authority meetings. He was elected to help solve problems, not just complain about them. Refusing to participate does not help solve the many problems the new Board has to face.
Cheers ... to ICC staffer Vicki Hoyle for being named the 2013 recipient of the Willard L. Lewis Staff Award. The award is given for excellent performance and commitment to the college by support staff to help achieve Isothermal’s mission of improving life through learning.
Cheers … to ICC Golden Apple Award winners Tim Beaver, Carole Brooks, James Freeman, Trish Huntsinger, Brenda McFarland, Judy O’Dell, Debbie Puett, Angela Reid, Kimberly Synder and Jeff Thomas. The Golden Apple Award is given to ICC staff members for making outstanding contributions to the college’s learning environment.
Jeers ... to Governor McCrory for rewarding former campaign staffers with high paying state jobs and exceptionally large salary increases. These politicos are being paid salaries three times greater than the starting salary for teachers who received no raises in the state budget.
Cheers … to the start of football season. Thursday’s Rutherford County Jamboree gave fans a small taste of what they can expect from our local teams this season and we are glad the season is upon us.
Cheers … to U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry for holding a town hall meeting in Forest City this week. Congress is in their August recess and McHenry took time out of his schedule to hold these town halls across the 10th Congressional District. Additionally, McHenry presented the Rutherfordton Fire Department with an Assistance to Firefighters gran worth $546,030.
From readers …
Cheers … to Matthew Clark for the series of hard hitting editorials on the Airport Commission and dissecting the new state budget. A good month of work there! After seven years of namby pamby, we got us a real good editorial writer.
Jeers … To all of the yayhoos who spray grass in the roads when you are mowing: If I wanted green all over my car, I would put it there myself. I mean, some of you folks actually make the road bumpy.
