Welcome back, spring
Spring is in the air!
The weather is warmer and the sun is starting to shine a little brighter. Although the official first day of spring is not until Wednesday, I can already feel it.
Last weekend I cleaned my apartment. I guess you could call it spring cleaning but it was more like needed to be done because I am super messy.
Anyway, I opened up all of my windows to let some fresh air come because it was so pretty outside. Even the birds were singing and at first I thought it was my phone telling me something was happening on Twitter because I was not prepared for their chirping.
My daddy says that winter is not over yet but I am going to try to be optimistic. I do love fall and winter. I like to watch the leaves fall, cuddle up under blankets and hope for snow. But there is something special about spring.
Spring means we get to shed off those heavy coats, and maybe the few pounds that are still hanging on from the holidays and enjoy some sunshine.
It is exciting and I get cabin fever at my apartment. I find myself wishing I had a porch to sit on and enjoy the weather. Maybe I will one day.
I think that everyone in the Town of Forest City felt the same way on Saturday. There were people everywhere; walking, working in their yards and just enjoying the warmth.
My parents and little brother Eric broke out the stick ball game that he got for Christmas. They said they played a nice little game in the yard. They played so that whoever hit the ball past a certain tree either scored or got an out. When I asked Daddy why they didn’t set up bases, he replied “We don’t run bases in stick ball, are you nuts?” Nobody in my family really enjoys running.
In college spring meant playing cornhole outside all day and enjoying time with your friends. The ultimate frisbee players came out and some brave girls threw on bikinis and got a head start on their tans.
Spring is the time to break out dresses and flip flops, some of my favorite wardrobe items. I really like wearing dresses. I like them so much that my momma begs me to look at other clothes when I am shopping. She always says “Erin you might actually need some shirts or something.” Sorry Momma, dresses are more exciting. But the idea of being able to go out on the town in a pretty dress and not have to worry about wearing a coat is a big perk this time of year. I am pretty lazy, so carrying a coat around is never my idea of a good time.
With spring also comes baseball and softball and I think that everyone knows how I feel about those sports by now. My brother made the baseball team at his middle school this year and I am trying to figure out if I will be able to attend any of the games. If not the family is planning on coming to see the Owls play. Baseball makes me happy.
Spring is hopeful. The flowers always come back after winter. The bees, although I really hate them, will come back to pollinate them. Spring means new life.
It is supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow. I don’t think excited quite describes what I am feeling about this weather change.
Welcome back, Spring, we have missed you.
