LETTER: Rutherford County motto: “Small Town Friendly”… bah hum bug!
On June 21 of this year I was very excited to be a part of the grand opening of the Farmers Market in downtown Forest City as a craft vendor.
I spent extra time and effort to be sure my booth was looking its best for this special event. It wasn’t long before I was truly disappointed.
Many town “officials/politicians” showed up for the ribbon cutting … and that’s all they did, cut the ribbon and participate in a photo opportunity for "The Daily Courier."
With the exception of “Hoot,” the Owl’s mascot, not one single official/politician stopped by my booth to say hello or to even acknowledge the presence of any vendors at the market.
Instead, they all decided to use the event as an opportunity to glad-hand each other and to push for votes. They stood in clusters in front of my (and many other) booths to run their mouths, preventing potential customers from entering or even seeing my goods.
Hey, officials/politicians the Farmers Market is about us, the vendors and our customers — not you.
With election season just around the corner, I know I (and many others), will retaliate with our votes. Enough said.
