Cheers and Jeers

Cheers ... to the County Commissioners for approving additional funds for the Farmers Market enabling more hours/days of operation and an Internet presence. Both consumers and producers stand to benefit.

Jeers ... to state Reps. Rayne Brown and Tim Moffitt, who waste time and legislative effort to submit the anti-nip bill.

Cheers ... to the Isothermal Community College Board of Trustees for accepting property adjacent to the campus.

Cheers ... to the Forest City Electric Department for earning the Municipal Electric Safety Award 2011 presented by ElectriCities.

Cheers ... to Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower for pointing out the hypocrisy in their actions.

Cheers ... to R-S Central senior Kendall Corbett and his quest for a state swimming title. Corbett should be congratulated for his storied prep swimming career and we wish him the best of luck as he competes in Cary this weekend.

Jeers ... to the decision to cut Saturday home postal delivery. We know it is necessary to sustain postal operations but, we feel it is unfortunate that it has come to this to keep the postal service viable.

Cheers ... to Rutherford County Schools for their changeover to a new software program that allows teachers to update academic progress from anywhere with Internet access. This can ensure that parents and students are the most current when it comes to updating academic progress.

Cheers ... all of the Rutherford County student-athletes who decided to further their educational careers as institutions of higher learning. We should all be proud of their on-field and off-field accomplishments and wish them luck as they continue their athletic and academic careers.

Cheers ... to East Rutherford wrestler Cody Hall for achieving his 100th career win. It is a difficult feat to reach the century milestone and we are happy for Hall for his accomplishment.

Cheers ... to the Town of Forest City for instituting a process of evaluations for its employees. We know the Town has an excellent staff and these evaluations should further illustrate that.
