Kidding Around: Oh, Hey 2013
Happy New Year folks. Welcome to 2013.
I know that some thought we would not make it to this point, but since we survived the latest apocalypse, we can now breathe a sigh of relief.
As we make plans for the new year, we can look back at 2012 and think about how we have grown and changed in that short period of time.
Some of us, like my brother, may have gotten a little taller. Some of us may have gotten a little wider. Some of us may have moved to new towns and switched jobs, while some of us have stayed absolutely the same. One thing is for sure, we are definitely in a new year and I would like to think it is time for a fresh start.
My life has changed significantly in the past year. Some doors have been closed for good. But, as they say, I am not giving up on opening those windows.
In 2011, I graduated college and landed the job at The Daily Courier. When I celebrated the beginning of 2012, I was excited to venture out into new opportunities and was hopeful that my dreams were starting to come true.
Celebrating the beginning of 2013 was a little different. I didn't have many huge life changes in 2012. I just worked, hung out with friends and tried to have fun. It was a pretty simple year for me.
I did do some fun things though. I got to spend Christmas in Disney World with my family. I finally came into the century by getting an iPhone, which I am still in love with by the way. I made some really great new friends. I got some super cute new clothes. I paid all my bills on time and did not go into debt. I mastered the art of doing my own eye makeup. I learned how to take criticism and I learned how to talk to new people without being shy.
All of these things may seem trivial. But it is these little things that add up to having a good year.
In other news, 2012 brought life-changing moments for many of my friends. I cannot tell you how many engagements, babies and weddings that have taken place. I am so happy for these people and I am looking forward to seeing many more friends get married in the future.
As for me, I am going into 2013 with no reservations and no plans. I won't make any resolutions because I have no idea if I will be able to keep them. But I will say that I am determined to do more things for myself. I want to live my life based on what I see as best, not what others think is best for me. I have said this for a few years, but I think that this year I can actually do it.
I hope that 2013 is full of more friendships, family and good times.
I am very excited to see what this year has in store for me.
