Kidding Around: This Christmas keeps getting better
You know how in one of my last columns I wrote that I had the best Christmas ever because I got an iPhone? Well, after this past week the holiday got even better.
This Christmas was the best Christmas ever because my family went to Disney World!
My momma had been wanting to go back to Disney World for a long time. She asked to go on the trip for her birthday, anniversary and any holiday that passed. She also realized that this could be the last time that all of the family would be together for Christmas vacation. My vacation days always depend on the other people in the newsroom and my brother will graduate from college in May, so this was the last guaranteed vacation time. I think all of that together finally made my daddy give in, and off we went to Orlando.
If you know me, you know I love to go on trips. If you tell me it is time for a vacation, then I am ready to jump in the car and go. I love being busy and having places to visit. I also love Disney World, so it was a win-win situation.
I left Rutherford County on Friday afternoon and drove the three hours home to Randolph County. When I got there, my parents fed me and we packed up and drove all night to Florida. I spent a whole lot of time in a car.
As soon as we arrived, we headed right to Epcot and started our three days of Disney magic. During those three days we fought through crowds and strollers to ride everything possible.
Some of my favorites were It’s a Small World, Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, The Voyage of the Little Mermaid, the Toy Story Ride, the Backlot Tour and The Haunted Mansion. I had to sit out some of the bigger thrill rides like Tower of Terror, Rockin Rollercoaster and Splash Mountain because nobody in the family wanted to ride with me, but I still had a blast.
My other favorite things about Disney World, to my brothers’ dismay, are the parades. I have told you before that I love everything about parades and Disney does theirs on a bigger and better scale. We saw a Christmas-themed parade, a Pixar parade and Disney’s Electrical Parade. The Electrical Parade was amazing. It featured the same floats as a normal parade, except they were all covered in lights. It was mesmerizing.
We also saw a new show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios called Fantasmic. The show was based around Mickey’s dream, which turned into a nightmare when all the villains from the Disney movies banded together against him. They projected images of Disney movies onto giant spouts of water, shot off fireworks and showed Mickey fighting off the villains. It was well worth waiting in line with all of those people to see.
If you have never been to Disney World, I think you need to go as soon as possible.
However there are a few things you need to be aware of. First, do not go during the middle of the summer. We did that once when I played softball at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. It was a terrible mistake. I thought we were going to die from the heat. My momma says that our shoes were melting to the roads around the park because it was so hot. I promise that you would much rather be fighting the crowds in the cool winter months than in the heat.
Second, be prepared to spend some money. You may need to save up for a while before you go. But, if you stay outside the park and bring your own lunches in, then it will not be too expensive.
Third, you will be around people from a variety of different countries who speak many different languages. If they run into you with their strollers, they will not understand you when you get mad at them. My daddy says the people with strollers use them as a weapon and
The last thing that you need to know about Disney World is that you are going to have an amazing time. The parks have something for everyone and it is the perfect way to make new family memories.
This was definitely the best Christmas ever.
