RUTHERFORDTON — Gladys Mae Harrison, age 82, died Sunday, September 8, 2013. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, at Stony Hill Baptist Church in Wake Forest, NC. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 8 First Baptist Church Road, Piedmont, SC 29673. Crowe's Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty J. Brooks
Betty J. Brooks, 80, of Prattville, AL, died Monday morning, September 2, 2013, after a long illness.
Mrs. Brooks was born in Shelby, NC. She was the youngest child of the late Marvin Guthrie and Daisy B. Huskey Willis, and was also preceded in death by her husband Lewis G. Brooks, and their son, Lewis G. Brooks, Jr. She graduated from Casar High School and attended Howard College in Birmingham. Mrs. Brooks served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was retired from the US Post Office. She was the first female letter carrier in Dothan, AL. She was a member of the Golden Valley UMC and an associate member of the Wallsboro UMC. She enjoyed serving the Lord in many ways at every church she belonged to. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, DAR and the UDC. She served as a volunteer pink lady in multiple hospitals.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by her daughters, Babs and Andy Robinson of Williston, FL, Len and Joe Robertson, Prattville, AL, and Meg and George Walker, Erie, PA; four grandchildren, Ellie and Allen Fant, Morriston, FL, John Gray, Williston, FL, Byron Ray, Erie, PA and Jessica Ray, US Air Force; one step granddaughter, Ivy and John Campbell; five great grandchildren, Kyra and Jenna Mueller, Jaxson Ray, David Ray, and Colten Campbell.
The Funeral will be conducted at 1:45 pm Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Golden Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Linda Stack Morgan and Rev. Jesse Carswell will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rutherford County Honor Guard will provide Military Rites.
The Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 1:30pm Wednesday at the church before the service.

Wanda Mae England Tate
Wanda Mae England Tate, age 71, of 125 Henderson Circle, Forest City, passed away Sunday at Hospice House.
Wanda was a native of Rutherford County and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was a former member of Corinth Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher. Wanda was an avid NASCAR and Atlanta Braves fan. Children held a special place in Wanda’s heart as shown by the care she gave to the many children she provided daycare for.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Tate; parents William Claude and Birdie Dalton England; brother Butch England and sisters Louise Ramsey and Dianne Beam.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeff Ferguson of Shelby; Tonya Whittle and her husband, Jimmy of Forest City, Raina Crowder and her husband, Tim of Forest City; grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney Waters of Forest City, Hailey Crowder of Greenville, NC and Hannah Crowder of Forest City; brothers, Bobby England and his wife, Carolyn of Ellenboro, Larry England and his wife, Inez of Virginia; sisters, Jenell Blanton of Shelby, Joyce Lovelace of Lexington, SC; sister in law, Gladys England; brother in law, Mike Beam; and special friend, Ernestine Poteat.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m., Wednesday at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev Bob Philbeck officiating. Burial will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

James Ray Hoyle
FOREST CITY, NC — James Ray Hoyle, age 77 of Forest City, North Carolina died Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Hospice House following a short battle with lung cancer.
Jim was born March 12, 1936, in Chase City, Virginia and was a son of the late Martin James Hoyle and Thelma Carmellia Sane McMahan. His father died when he was very young and he was reared by his mother and step father, Kyle McMahan. He was a graduate of R-S Central High School and attended the University of California -Berkley. Jim also served four years with the United States Air Force at Parks Air Force Base in California from 1954-1958. During college, Jim started building homes in California and continued for 13 years, building well over 2,000 homes in the area. After moving back to North Carolina, Jim continued in the real estate field. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, the American Legion and AA for 34 years. He loved driving old trucks and convertible sports cars, shagging, walking on the beach, loved "little" dogs, and eating the wrong foods. Jim was married to the love of this life, the late Evelyn Bailey Hoyle for 50 years.
Survivors include his son, Kevin and wife, Tina of Charlotte; sisters, Cherry McMahan Smith of Forest City, Frances Kirby and husband, Norris of Melbourne, FL, Carol Duckworth and husband, Martin of Modesto, CA, and Mickie Voight and husband, Howard of Hickory Hills, IL.
Funeral services will be held at three o'clock Thursday, September 12, 2013, in the Concord Baptist Church with Reverend Travis Laflin and Reverend Aubrey Folk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Visitation will be in the church sanctuary from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday.

This fine establishment and its compassionate doctors, nurses, CNAs and volunteers helped Dad in his final days move on to where he could be with the love of his life again, Evelyn.
