David Brooks
FOREST CITY — David Brooks, 46, of Francis Street, Forest City, died on Monday, April 16, 2013, at his residence. At David’s request, a private service will be held on Thursday, at Liberty Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Robert F. Patton
CHAPEL HILL, NC — Robert F. Patton, age 91, died Thursday, April 11, 2013. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel Hill
Memorial Cemetery on Fordham Blvd. in Chapel Hill. A memorial service will be held  at 11 a.m. at the University Presbyterian Church, Chapel Hill on Saturday, April 27. Memorials may be made to the University Presbyterian Church, 209 East Franklin Street, Post Office Box 509, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. The Patton family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham.

 

Eddie Yelton
Eddie Yelton, of Oscar Justice Road, Rutherfordton, NC, died April 13, 2013, at his home as a result of a tractor accident.
He was the son of Howard Yelton and the late Shirley Gross. Eddie was 64 years old. He was a member of Dysartsville Baptist Church and attended Cane Creek Baptist Church.
He loved old cars and drag racing, but his greatest joy was his three grandchildren, especially little man Wyatt (4-years-old). They would floor wrestle, go to county fairs, circuses and Shelby Park to ride the train. He never missed a chance to spend time with him. He attended all the two older girls' school activities, always expressing his love and pride for them.
He was proud to be a Vietnam Vet and loved that he served his country and lived to tell his grandchildren about it. He touched many lives by his generous and loving nature. When called on, he would go out of his way to help. He was a member of the Forest City Masonic Lodge. He was self-employed, owned Yelton Trailers in Spindale, and along with his wife, he owned several rest and group homes.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda (the love of his life) of the home; his father Howard Yelton and wife, Lila; a son, Wesley Yelton and wife, Jenny Lou; three grandchildren, Meagan, Sarah and Wyatt Yelton; a brother, Donnie Yelton and wife, Joan, all of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Linda Guffey and husband, Mark of Forest City; Lucille Mock of Colorado; mother-in-law, Lissie Dellinger; brother-in-law, Kenny Dellinger and wife, Dian; two special nephews, Aaron and Jamie Yelton; a number of other nephews and nieces; and his rest home family who loved him dearly.
Eddie was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Gross and one sister, Louise Parks.
A celebration of life will be held at Cane Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Camp and Rev. Don Harris officiating at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. at Crowe's Mortuary. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hudlow Fire Department.
Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the family of Eddie Yelton.
 
Billy Swafford
William Mark “Billy” Swafford, age 51, of Rutherfordton, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at his home, while being cared for by Hospice. 
A native of Macon County, he was the son of James Swafford and Mary Jo Green Swafford. Billy was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and worked with his father as a car salesman.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Gilda Hamrick of Rutherfordton, 
Billy was preceded in death by a brother, Raleigh Swafford.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. William Swink and Rev. Wesley Hudgins officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the church. Concluding services will be held in the church cemetery.

David Brooks
FOREST CITY — David Brooks, 46, of Francis Street, Forest City, died on Monday, April 16, 2013, at his residence. 
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on November 17, 1966, a son of the Ralph and Martha Cooper Bailey. He was employed with Parker Hannifin Corporation for 23 years.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jared Brooks. 
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Justin Brooks of Forest City; one daughter, Kristi Brooks of Forest City; one brother, Chad Bailey and wife, Laura of Forest City; three sisters, Connie Robbins and husband, Terry of Forest City, Leslie Bridges and husband, Scott of Mooresboro and Sherri Bailey of Kansas; his grandchildren, Joshua and Jason Brooks and Brett Brooks; many nieces and nephews.
At David’s request, a private service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Owen Duncan officiating. Burial will be held in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mildred Feagan Lawler
COLUMBIA, SC — Mildred Feagin Lawler died Friday, April 5, 2013. 
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Forest City. The family will receive friends in the parlor following the service.
Mildred was a native of Alabama; she lived in Forest City for over forty years. She
was an artist and a beloved teacher of art, a member of the Griffith Rutherford chapter of the DAR and of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, and two daughters.
Survivors include her daughter, Lorie Lawler Sigmon, two grandchildren, and a great
grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the bus fund or to the cancer patient assistance fund at First United Methodist Church.
 
Norman Clifton Hardin
FOREST CITY, NC — Norman Clifton Hardin, age 79, of Woodset Drive, Forest City, died Monday, April 15, 2013.  
He was a native of Rutherford County and a son of the late James Archibald Hardin and Vera Doggett Hardin. Norman was a graduate of Cool Springs High School where he was active in sports and attended Gardner-Webb College where he played football and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Carolina University. He also served in the United States Army and was retired from Stonecutter Mills Corporation after 44 years service where he was a Systems Analyst and Head of the Payroll Department. He was a founding member of Forest City Church of The Nazarene where he served on various committees and a former member of the Forest City Civitans.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Hardin of the home; two sons, Kim Hardin and Brad of San Carlos, CA, Dale Hardin and wife, Jeannie of Matthews, NC; a brother, Steve Hardin of Forest City; and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jacob Hardin.
The funeral will be held at eleven o'clock Thursday, April 18, 2013, in the Forest City Church of The Nazarene with Reverend Dale Austin and Reverend Wesley Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 Wednesday evening at Padgett and King.
