FOREST CITY — Victoria “Vickie” Lynn Ruppe, 51, died on Sunday, December 02, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the A.C. McKinney Memorial Chapel. The family will greet friends and family after the service at the funeral home. McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home is serving the Ruppe family.
GOLDEN VALLEY — Harold Dean Jones, 74, died Sunday, December 2, 2012. The Funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, at First Broad Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Visitation will be from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m., Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Washburn & Dorsey is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Hamrick Price
CHARLOTTE — Betty Hamrick Price, 87, passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012, at Sunrise on Providence, her home since 2006.
She was a native of Rutherford County and the daughter of the late John Jasper and Lucy Hill Hamrick. She was educated in Rutherford County Schools and was a proud graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, Class of 1945. Betty married John A. Price in 1945 and following WWII, worked in Raleigh hospitals prior to John’s graduation from NC State University.
Betty and John settled in Bryson City, NC where their children were later born. Betty worked in a variety of nursing capacities, doctors offices, hospitals and in Public Health in western NC. She retired from her nursing career at McDowell County Health Dept in 1990 and enjoyed her retirement with John in Marion, their home for 34 years until his death in 2001.During retirement, John and Betty enjoyed dancing, canasta, travel with friends, and for Betty especially, golf, which she began playing at 70. Betty remained in Marion until 2004 when she moved to the Carriage Club in Charlotte and then on to Sunrise in 2006.
Betty was married for 56 years and pre-deceased by her husband, John Alfred Price of Marion, NC and her brother, Col. Dr. John J. Hamrick of Lenoir, NC.
Surviving are her sister, Eris Hamrick Russell of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Wynelle Price McDaniel of Caroleen, NC; daughter, Renee Price Ball and husband Greg of Charlotte; and son Joseph K. Price and wife Amy of Nebo, NC; four grandchildren, Adam Price of Wichita, KS, Jennifer Price of Chapel Hill, NC, Caroline Price of Nebo, NC and Cameron Ball of Charlotte; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will be eternally grateful for the loving care and concern of her caregivers, companions and dear friends Selene Dover and Shirley Houston, and to Dan Morris, Delores Guerra, Flo, Emily, Detra, Christine, Pat O’Connor and Natalie Hallas and the rest of her Hospice family and to a number of special caregivers and staff at Sunrise over the years.
A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held Tuesday December 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 99 Main Street, Marion, NC with visitation immediately following the service. Burial at WNC Veterans Cemetery with John, will be private.

Patricia S. Splawn
Patricia Smith "Patsy" Splawn, 74, of 4559 Chesnee Road, Rutherfordton died December 2, 2012, in Landrum, SC.
She was the daughter of the late Esco and Beatrice Westbrook Smith; beloved wife of Ralph Splawn; mother of Michael Keith Splawn and the late Gary Splawn. She is also survived by her brother Grady Smith and wife, Madelyn; and sister Sharon Smith Clarke and husband, Les; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patsy was an active member of Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren and worked for several years as a dental assistant in both Landrum and Spartanburg. She assisted Ralph in the family business, Splawn Egg Farm for many years and worked part time at Harley's Dress Shoppe in Chesnee, SC. Not only was Patsy dearly loved by the Smith and Splawn families but by her church family and community for her hospitality and willingness to help others. Their home was always open to family and friends for many happy gatherings and she will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Petty Funeral Home, Landrum, SC. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, and Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren, 555 Melvin Hill Road, Columbus, NC. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Leavy Ann Johnson Scruggs
CLIFFSIDE — Leavy Ann Johnson Scruggs, 100, of Cliffside Street, Cliffside, died on Friday, November 30, 2012, at her residence.
A native of Cherokee County, SC, she was born on December 11, 1911, a daughter of the late Jackson David and Edna Henderson Johnson. She retired from Cone Mills Corporation, Cliffside Plant. She was member of Cliffside Baptist Church; she loved to cook and quilt.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Scruggs; one son, David Scruggs.
She is survived by her son, Dean Scruggs and wife Becky of Seneca; one daughter, Joann Mitchell of Cliffside; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 05, 2012, at Cliffside Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Cliffside Baptist Church.

Grace Sisk Moore, age 84, of Rutherfordton, passed away on December 3, 2012, at White Oak Manor.
She was the widow of the late Cecil Carson “Bill” Moore, who passed on November 28, 2012, after a marriage of 66 years. Grace was born to the late David and Rachel Dalton Sisk. She was a native of Rutherford County, a member of Adaville Baptist Church, and a retired furniture inspector.
Grace is survived by; a daughter, Brenda Rinehart of Rutherfordton; two sons, David Carson Moore and wife, Janet of Forest City and Eddie Ray Moore and wife, Betty of Rutherfordton; sisters Betty Flack of Union Mills and Virginia Cothran of Stanley, NC; brothers Max Sisk of Dallas, NC and Jerry Sisk and wife Gail of Stanley, NC; sister in law, Alpha Sisk of Stanely, NC; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Crowe’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m., before the service.

Wilford Cooper, age 80, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Willow Ridge Rehab and Living Center.
Wilford was born December 12, 1931, in Spartanburg County, SC to the late Theodore Cooper and Addie Mae Wilson Cooper. He was a Purple Heart recipient and a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army. He worked as a farmer and also in textiles for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #48 and attended the baptist church. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and going to yard sales.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dora Lamb, Alarie Cooper and Joyce Skipper.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Lattimore and husband, Wayne of Chesnee and Hazel Moore of Forest City; one brother, Rev. Reid Cooper and wife, Jolene of Marion; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Broad River Baptist Church with Reverend Reid Cooper, Reverend Bryan Ezell and Reverend Phillip Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lucille Dailey Wells, age 88, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Hospice House.
Lucille was born November 13, 1924, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to the late William H. Dailey and Sarah Elizabeth Boone Dailey. She worked for both Cone Mills and Burlington Industries for many years and was a member of Chase Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved visiting shut-ins and going to the Senior Citizens Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Robbie Dailey; two husbands, Jack Radford and Jack Wells; three brothers and six sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Evelyn Levon Morehead of Ellenboro, Alice Faye Wood and husband, Donnie of Forest City and Pat Blackwell of Seneca, SC; one son, Edward Devon Radford and wife, Tonda of Forest City; one sister, Delcie Head of Raleigh. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, two step great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Harrelson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Butler officiating. Interment will follow in the Caroleen-Avondale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. At other times they will be gathered at 358 Long Branch Road.

Amanda Grant Waters
Amanda Grant Waters, age 85, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home.
Amanda was born October 18, 1927, in Rutherford County, NC to the late Joseph Grant and Fannie Wood Grant. She was a homemaker and enjoyed embroidery and crocheting. She attended the Village Chapel in Forest City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband of more than 40 years, D.C. Waters; two brothers, William Grant, James Hariston and one sister, Edna Crowder.
Survivors include one brother, Rex Hariston of Panama City, FL; her caretaker, Brenda Reynolds and husband, Jerry of Rutherfordton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Mr. Jack Hansma officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
