Amber Rebecca Lynn Smith

BOSTIC— Amber Rebecca Lynn Smith, age 34, of Bostic, died Sunday, April 13, 2014. A visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Washburn and Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service. At 5 p.m. there will be a memorial gathering for those in attendance. Washburn and Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the family. 


Jeannelou Hodgens

CLIFFSIDE— Jeannelou S. Hodgens, age 77, of Cliffside, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cliffside United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. McKinney-Landreth and Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the family. 


Genell Newton Dodson

SHELBY— Genell Newton Dodson, age 85, of Shelby, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 606 S. Dekalb St., Shelby, NC 28150. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby is serving the family.



Tony Lee Stewart

KINGS MOUNTAIN— Tony Lee Stewart, age 65, of Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Dixon Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain. Burial will immediately follow in Stewart Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Kings Mountain and other times at his daughter, Jodi Greene's home on Shelby Road in Kings Mountain. Roy Lee Gibbons

Roy Lee Gibbons, age 76, of Greer SC formerly of Rutherfordton died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Pelham Medical Center in Greer.  

A native of Kannapolis NC he was the son of the late B.B. "Dink" Gibbons and Ruth Moon Gibbons. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School class of 1957, member of  the  Rutherfordton Masonic  Lodge #91 and was member of Southern Baptist Church in Ruth.  

Survivors left to love and cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years Mary Ruth McMasters Gibbons formerly of Rutherfordton now residing in Greer SC; one daughter, Dana Gibbons Southern and husband John of Simpsonville, SC; one son, Don Page and wife Becky of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Calvin Page, Kendyl Page and Macie Faith Southern; great granddaughter Lorelei Page and one brother, Max Gibbons of Landis, NC.

The funeral service will be at Southern Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 18, 2014 with Rev. John Perry officiating.  The body will lie in state 30 mins prior to the service. A visitation will follow the funeral service. A short service and entombment will be held Saturday April 19 at 2:00 PM at Graceland East Memorial Gardens 2206 Woodruff Road Simpsonville, SC 29681.

Hugh Ronald Owen 

Hugh Ronald Owen, age 84, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at White Oak Manor in Rutherfordton where he was a resident. Hugh was born March 20, 1930 in Mecklenburg County, NC and was a former resident of Washington, DC, Eastwood Village in Bostic and Carolina House of Forest City before going to White Oak. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a graduate of Wake Forest School of Law. Hugh was an attorney and worked for many years at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.

Hugh is survived by a host of friends and caregivers that he considered his family.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm Thursday, April 17, 2014 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Cecelia Beck officiating. A private burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, Post Office Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043. Betty Grayson Hunt 

Betty Grayson Hunt, 82, of Benfield’s Landing, Lake James, NC died Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Born in Cleveland County, NC on November 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Howard Hamby Grayson and Myrtle Belle Wellmon Grayson. Betty was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Along with her husband, Jim, she was an avid walleye fisherman at both Lake James and Lake Fontana, NC. This was their favorite hobby throughout the years. They operated Benfield’s Landing and Marina at Lake James since 1973, creating many years of good memories there for family and friends. She was loved by many and will be missed.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty is survived by her sons, Scott Hunt and his wife, Sherry, of Lake James, Donnie Hunt of Lake James, and Steve Hunt and his wife, Gilda, of Polkville, NC; grandchildren, Amy Hunt Miller and her husband, Cameron, Jamie Hunt, Jennifer Street and her husband, Kevin, Cory Hunt, Kayla Hunt, Patty Tripp, and Randy Spangler and his wife, Jennie; great-grandchildren, Ethan Miller, Evan Miller, Trevor Webb, Ashley Webb, Toby Street, and Andrew Bruno; and a great-great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Bruno.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee “Jim” Hunt; a brother, Howard Grayson, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Wilson and Virginia Grigg; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hunt.

The memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
