Frederick Blanton, Sr.

Frederick Eugene Blanton, Sr., 77, of Panama City, Fl. died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 15, in Florida.

Wade J. Dysart

Wade J. Dysart, age 85, of Forest City, NC died Friday, January 18, 2013 at Hospice of Rutherford County.
Wade was born January 30, 1927 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Broadus Dysart and Lola Holland Dysart.  Wade was a World War II veteran, having served in the US Navy.  He was a heavy equipment operator for TXI Cement and later for Duke Power for many years before his retirement.  He also worked for Alexander Mills for several years.  He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was an avid dove hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Dysart and Yates Dysart and by two sisters, Vernie Huskey and Martha Radford.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Ada Radford Dysart; two sons, Wade Jr. Dysart and wife, Glenda Kay of Mt. Gilead, NC and Gary Dysart and wife, Linda Kay of Forest City; one sister, Aileen Moorehead of Ellenboro; five grandchildren, Barry Dysart, Greg Dysart, Marsha Eason, Jeremy Dysart, Christy Dysart and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Owen Duncan officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC  28043.

Iris Newton

Iris Moore Newton,86, of Forest City, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at her home. Iris was born February 15, 1926 in Rutherford County NC and was a daughter of the late George Adams and Christeen Withrow Moore. She was a member of Union Mills Presbyterian Church and was a retired textile inspector. She also worked as a CNA home care giver. In her spare time, Iris enjoyed working in the flower garden as well as spending time with her friends at the Senior Center.
Iris is survived by her husband, Ted Hoover Newton of the home;  daughter, Susan Baynard Ward and husband Keith of Union Mills; grandchild Leslie Baynard; great grandchildren Jordan Carroll and Taylor Baynard; step-grandchildren Chad Newton and wife Lynn; Todd Newton; step great-granddaughter Brooklyn Newton;  brothers and sisters, Bob Moore, Pat Allen,Estelle Honeycutt, Mildred Henderson, Mary Sue Randall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by children Christy Gail Baynard and Douglas Scott Baynard; siblings Verdane Moore, Butch Moore, George "Bug" Moore Jr, Edith Harrill and Thelma Moore.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM Sunday, January 20 at Union Mills Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom and Rev. Pat Queen officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Rutherford County Senior Center, 193 Callahan Koon Road, Spindale, NC 28160.

Jim Goode

Jim Goode,  78, of Ruth died Friday, January 18, 2013, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby. He was a native of Rutherford County  and was the son of the late J.E. Goode Sr. and Lillie Walker Goode.
Jim was a retired school teacher from the science department at R-S Central High School. He
was involved in traveling the east coast teaching teachers how to teach physics. Jim served the town of Ruth as mayor and as a commissioner.  He was a board member of the Broad River Water Authority and was the chairman of the building committee on the new R-S Central High School. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church serving as a deacon and  Sunday School Director. Jim was a model train enthusiast and enjoyed photography and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was the widower of Billie Rose Goode and was preceded in death by brothers Franklin Tobe Goode, Henry Goode and Elbert Bud Goode Jr.
He is survived by one daughter, Amiee Goode-Hanaway and husband Bart of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, Dr. Greg Goode of Rutherforton and Nick Goode of the home; grandson, Preston Bailey Goode of Rutherfordton; one sister, Sally "Louise" Queen of Rutherfordton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday January 22, 2013 at Southern Baptist Church in Rutherfordton.  The funeral service will be at Southern Baptist Church at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 with Rev.
John Perry, Rev. Jerry Ruppe, Rev. Jim Cashwell and Dr. James Byrd officiating.
 Entombment will be in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Southern Baptist Church 140 Church Street Rutherfordton NC 28139.

Elizabeth Stallings

Elizabeth Hunt Stallings, age 90, of Spindale died Saturday, January 19th.  She was a 1943 graduate of Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing and was employed at the hospital for many years as Director of Nursing and as an administrative assistant.
Mrs. Stallings was the daughter of the late Rev. D.J. Hunt and Geneva Gardin Hunt.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Stallings, Sr. and a son, William J. Stallings, Jr.
She is survived by one son, John, and his wife Melanie of Burnsville and one daughter Sarah, and her husband, Bill Kirk, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stallings was a member, elder, and clerk of Session at Spindale Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday January 21st at 3:00PM at Crowes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William L. Kirk officiating.  Receiving of friends will be from 1:00-3:00PM prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Eternal Hills.  Memorial contributions may be made to Spindale Presbyterian Church, POB 225, Spindale, NC, or to the Spindale Public Library, or Yancey County Library in Burnsville, NC.  Online condolences may be made at www.crowemortuary.com.


Virgie T. Upton

Virgie T. Upton, age 81, of Harris-Henrietta Road, Forest City, NC, died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her residence.
Virgie was born April 2, 1931 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Guy Willis Toney and Maggie Toney Gault. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1949 and a faithful and longtime member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church.  She and her late her husbands were co-owners and operators of VJ’s Restaurant.  She also worked in textiles and as a seamstress.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed painting, craftwork, gardening and especially taking care of her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed singing in the church choir, working in the church nursery, taking care of Senior Citizens and being involved in the BWU at the church.  She was a vibrant and kind person to all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William L. Upton, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Upton of the Chase Community; two sons, Boyce Upton of Sunshine and Blaine Upton and wife, Myra of Shiloh.  She is also survived by two grandchildren, Amelia Upton and Maggie Upton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Terry White and Reverend Robert Carnell officiating.  Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at church.
