Penny Lowder
Penny Lowder, 89, of Rutherfordton, N. C., passed away January 15, 2013, at Hospice of Rutherford County. 
She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. As a charter member of the Rutherford Quilt Guild, she enjoyed her last few years attending meetings and quilting. 
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Chambers and husband, David of Rutherfordton, N.C.; son, William “Sonny” Lowder and wife, Pat of Albemarle, N. C.; and daughter, Debbie Mauch of Phenix City, Alabama. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday January 19, 2013, at the home of Sandy & David Chambers, 3074 Polk County Line Rd., Rutherfordton, N. C. 28139 from 1 to 5 p.m. for a celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions made to Rutherford Quilt Guild Inc., c/o Deanne Johnson – President, 171 Wilson Court, Lake Lure, N. C. 28746.

Georgia Burleson Phillips
Georgia Burleson Phillips, age 85, of Womack Lake Road, Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Henderson Care.
Georgia was born August 28, 1927, in Mitchell County, NC, to the late Thomas Clingman Burleson and Ada Buchanan Burleson. She worked for Burlington Industries most of her life and retired from J.C. Cowan. She was a longtime and faithful member of Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. She was known as “the world’s greatest cook” and loved her family and church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Collon Phillips; one son, Wayne Phillips and one sister, Bernice Wilson.
She is survived by one grandson; James Wayne Phillips and wife, Debbie of Forest City; one granddaughter, Donna Buchanan of Ontario, Canada; three great grandchildren, Terri Goforth, Garrett Buchanan, Eric Buchanan; two great-great grandchildren, Mackenzie Phillips and Nathaniel Goforth. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Nanette Phillips of Henrietta and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Harris officiating.  Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
Memorial donations are suggested to Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church, 1938 US Highway 221A, Forest City, NC  28043.

Michael Howard Teague
Michael Howard Teague, age 60, of Hickory Nut Street, Forest City, died, Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late, Irene Curtis Head and step-father Max Head; a former forklift operator for both Watts Regulator and A&E Plastics, a veteran having served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and member of Harmon Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Crystal Michele Bradley of Henrietta, two brothers, Raymond Head and his wife, MaryAnn of Spindale, Bobby Head and his wife, Sheila of Ellenboro, a sister, Sharon Edwards and her husband, Sam of Bostic, a step-mother, Donnis Coffey Head of Forest City, and one grandchild, Destiny Bradley of Henrietta.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning, Saturday, January 19, 2013, at The Padgett and King Chapel, with the Reverend John Godfrey officiating. Interment will follow at the Campfield Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 prior to the service.

James Albert Lancaster, Jr.
James Albert "Jim" Lancaster, Jr., age 76, of  212 Idlewood Lane, Forest City, North Carolina, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center in Rutherfordton, North Carolina.  
He was born January 22, 1936, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and was a son of the late James Albert Lancaster, Sr. and Eleanor Grady Lancaster. Jim attended N.C. State University and served ten years in the United States Coast Guard. Jim was a former resident of Raleigh where he worked for the North Carolina Department of Commerce. He also enjoyed coaching Pop Warner Football. Jim came to Rutherford County 13 years ago and assumed the post of Executive Director of the Rutherford County Economic Development Commission where he worked until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Lancaster.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Updegraff Lancaster of the home; two sons, Chris Lancaster of Los Angeles, CA, and Tim Lancaster of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Tonya Lancaster Layton of Tarboro, NC; and his uncle, Bill Lancaster of Rocky Mount, NC. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes no formal services be held.

Charles Harris
Mr. Charles (Thick) Harris, 76, of Rutherfordton, died Tuesday, January 15, 2012. He was a son of the late Baxter Harris and Selma Palmer Harris.
A 1954 graduate of Carver High he served in the Army 1954-1956. Charles graduated from ICC in 1974 and worked at Fast Foods Merchandise 18 years. He played baseball with the Forest City Owls, coached and played with the Tryon Braves, served his community wherever a helping hand was needed, loved the Lord. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Tootsie Gray Harris for 55 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Freida Harris Duffy, Charles C. Harris, Troy Victor Harris, Chuck Surratt, Pamela Shoemaker, Rodney Harris, Angela Hunt, Donnie McGempsey, a special son, Todd Harris; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers, Vernon Harris and Dexter Harris.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 19 at 2pm at New Bethel AME Zion Church, Forest City. The body will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service.
