Ruth Bright Haulk
Ruth Bright Haulk, age 89, of Forest City, NC, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the Oakland Living Center.
Born May 11, 1924 in Rutherford County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Charles Ervin Bright and Donia Lakern Guffey Bright. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Ruth also enjoyed taking walks and was known for her delicious biscuits.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl William Haulk and by two daughters, Nancy Harris and Gail Gowan.
Survivors include one son, Jake Haulk and wife, June of Fletcher, NC; two daughters, Janice Keever of Forest City and Holly Bland and husband, Phillip of Princeton, NC; brother, Charles Bright, Jr. of North Carolina; two sisters, Mavis Bridges of Forest City and Joann Hodge of Ellenboro. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church with Reverend Phillip Bland, Reverend Brian Brock and Reverend David Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A public viewing and receiving of friends will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.
Memorial donations are suggested to the charity of choice.

Charles Dee Lavender
Charles Dee Lavender, age 71 of Grice Road, Ellenboro, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center , Charlotte. He was born October 11, 1942 in Rutherford County and was the son of the late Willis and Willie Mae Crawford Lavender. Dee graduated from Ellenboro High School. He was an eighteen year firefighter for Spindale Fire Department, enjoyed fishing and camping, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He retired after thirty-three years service from Stonecutter Mills Corporation. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Lavender.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Hall Lavender; three daughters, Tracy Brackett of Ellenboro, Sherri Jones of Rutherfordton, and Amy Brown and husband Chris of Sunshine; three sons, Tommy Jones and wife Tracy, and Joey Lavender and wife Sherry, all of Sunshine, and Kevin Lavender and wife Tammy of Gilkey; a sister, Obie Walker of Ellenboro; sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held eleven o'clock in the morning Saturday, November 30, 2013 in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. David Jendry, Rev. Rodger Hall, and Rev. Kenneth Kanipe officiating. Memorials may be made to the Hospitality House, 1400 Scott Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203 or to the V.F.W. Post 5204, Forest City, NC. Johnnie Hamby Miller, 83, of Rutherfordton died Monday, November 25, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Harvest Time Full Gospel Church in Rutherfordton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Crowe's Mortuary & Crematory is serving the family.
