Lois Andrews
CONCORD — Lois Long Andrews, of Concord, NC, and formerly of Forest City, died Friday, January 4, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by The Padgett & King Mortuary.
Eugene "Gene" Wilson Fortner
CHIMNEY ROCK — Gene Fortner passed away on January 3, 2013, at The Haven in Pineville, NC, of complications from Alzheimer’s. 
He was born April 7, 1920, in Davidson, NC, to the late Samuel and Laura Wilson Fortner, and was the youngest and last survivor of their 8 children. From 1931 to 1939, Gene was raised at The Methodist Children’s Home in Winston-Salem, NC, where he played football and baseball.
Gene fought in WW II as part of Army Company C, 322nd Regiment, 81st Infantry Wildcat Division and fought in the South Pacific at Peleliu and Angaur. Gene was a member of VFW Post 10473, Bat Cave, NC, and the American Legion Post 0437, Chimney Rock, N.C. Gene was a truck driver with Akers Motor Lines for 20 years before his retirement. Gene loved all football and college basketball, especially Duke Basketball. 
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife Geneva D. Fortner (2004), daughter-in-law Aileen R. Lynch (2007), 2 sons-in-law Stephen F. Oates (1997) and William T. Crump (2012).
Gene is survived by his daughter, Linda Fortner Oates Crump of Charlotte, NC, step son Roy Lynch and his wife Kay of Charlotte, NC, 3 step- grandchildren Stephen Lynch of Mooresville, N.C., Chris Lynch and Greta and husband, Bryan Sifford of Charlote, NC,  and two step-great grandchildren Kelsey and Megan Lynch of Mooresville, NC
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday January 6, 2013, at Chimney Rock Baptist Church, 270 Boys Camp Rd., Lake Lure, NC, with burial to follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. Rev. Gene Daggerhart will officiate. Mr. Fortner will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Children’s Home, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
Crowe’s Mortuary is assisting the Fortner family. 
Alice Faye Weathers
Alice Faye Weathers, age 59, of Forest City, died Friday, Jaunary 4, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. 
A native of Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Darice Edmund Ervin and Faye Hamrick Davis. She was a finance company manager and a member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Larry Dean Ledford and wife, Kim of Ellenboro; grandson, Justin Dean Ledford of Ellenboro; sister, Laura Lee Conner of Ellenboro; and dear friend, Nancy Hoyle of Ellenboro. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Dean Ira Davis.
No services are planned at this time.

Gail Frances Watts Wilson
RUTHERFORDTON — Gail Frances Watts Wilson, age 76, of Rutherfordton, died Friday January 4, 2013, at Hospice House.  
She was a native of Rutherford County and a daughter of the late Charley and Sarah Catherine Williams Watts. She was also a retired restaurant worker. 
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Miranda Gail Bradley and Myra Pauline Holland.
Survivors include four sons, Dock Walter King, Jr of Star City, AR, Burwell Ray King of Rutherfordton, James Clifton King of Sandy Mush and Tarry Rendall Wilson of Ellenboro; a daughter, Bertha King West of Rutherfordton. There are also 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held at two o'clock Monday, January 7, 2013, in the New Restoration Church on Oakland Road with Reverend Jerry Hames officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the church on Monday afternoon. Interment will be private for the immediate family.

The family will be at the home of Jesse Lail, 381 Old Stonecutter Road, Rutherfordton, NC.

Maggie Silver Melton
Maggie Silver Melton, age 78, of Harris, NC, died Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Maggie was born June 17, 1934, in Rutherford County, NC, to the late William Hicks Silver and Lola McDaniel Silver. She worked at Spindale Mills and for Dan River Mills for many years. She was a long-time member of Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed NASCAR and traveling. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Walter Blanton; one brother, Melvin Silver and two sisters, Georgia Nance and Flora Revels.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Wayne Blanton and wife, Shelley of Harris; one daughter, Debra Blanton Kiser and husband, Clarence William of Forest City; a special sister-in-law, Hazel Silver of Marion, NC; three grandchildren, Lucas Blanton, Frankie Rose and Kara Sims; six great grandchildren, Nicholas  Sims, Garrett Sims, Tori Rose, Aleah Rose, Vanessa Blanton and Lucas Blanton, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Edward Ellison officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
