Mary Blanton Mode, age 66, of Lake Davis Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040, died, Friday, December 21, 2012, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Shelby, NC. A native of Cleveland County, she was a son of the late J.Y. Blanton and Ola Bingham Blanton, a retired supply clerk from National Textiles and member of Harmon Street Baptist Church. She was a proud band grandmother who attended all of her grandchildren’s performances. She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Mode in 1968, and a sister, Carolyn Blanton.
Survivors include her daughter, Myra Goodwin and her husband Jimmy of Ellenboro, two brothers, David Blanton and his wife Tina of Shelby, Ray Blanton of Boiling Springs, and two sisters, Susie Honeyman and her husband Harold of Shelby, Sarah “Lib” Moore of Earl, NC. There are two grandchildren, KaylaGoodwin and Joshua Goodwin of Ellenboro.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning, Monday, December 24, 2012, at the Harmon Street Baptist Church, with the Reverend John Godfrey and the Reverend Dr. Tom Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 in the church sanctuary. Memorials may be made to the Harmon Street Baptist Church, 398 Harmon Street, Forest City, NC 28043. Charles Edward Padgett, age 78 of Hall Street, Forest City, North Carolina died Friday, December 21, 2012 at Hospice House of Forest City. He was a native of Rutherford County and a son of the late Frank and Virginia Lowery Padgett. Charles was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and retired from Sara Lee Textiles. He was a graduate of Tri Community High School and for many years was a salesman for Waldensian Bakery. Charles also served his country in the United States Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lee Padgett.
Survivors include his wife, Mary June Padgett of the home, two sons, Michael J Padgett (Wanda), Robert Scott Padgett (Angela) and a daughter, Debra Padgett Norville. There are also six grandchildren, Timothy Paige Hilliard, Kristen Padgett Finucan (Mike), Mitchel Craig Padgett, Joshua Lee Padgett, Jeremy Britt Padgett, and Jarrett Graham Padgett, three great-grandchildren, Arey Paige Hilliard, Savannah Kate Finucan, and Malayna Marie Padgett, a brother, Jerry Donald Padgett (Brenda), sisters, Ellen Padgett Huskey (Maurice) and Trudy Padgett Moore (Bill). There are also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Sunday, December 23, 2012 in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Ron Setzer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. No formal visitation is planned and the family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
