Martha Baker Wilkins
Martha Baker Wilkins, age 88, of Rutherfordton died on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at The Hospice House of Rutherford County.
She was born in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of the late Emmett Horne Baker and Martha Clarke Baker. She graduated from A.L. Miller High School in Macon and received a BA degree from Agnes Scott College, class of 1946. While at Agnes Scott, she was editor of the college paper, and went on to pursue a career in journalism in New York City before her marriage. Her husband's business took the couple to Cuernavaca, Mexico and then to Mexico City. During their nine years in Mexico, they had four children before moving to Rutherfordton in April of 1965.
Martha is survived by her husband, Dick Wilkins, of 57 years, two sons and their wives: Tim and Phyllis Wilkins of Portland, Maine and their daughters, Alexandra and Olivia; Chris and Lisa Wilkins of Charlotte and their daughters, Kayla and Emma; one daughter, Robin Wilkins Holtz, and her husband, Drew of Brookline, Massachusetts; one brother, Clark Baker and his wife, Rowan of Sewanee, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her son Lawrence Baker Wilkins.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at McMahan's Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Saint Francis Episcopal Church, Rutherfordton, on Saturday, July 13, beginning at 2 p.m., followed by burial in the church Memorial Garden. The Reverend Alex Viola will officiate. A reception will follow the burial at the Parish House across the street.

Mrs. Bernice Debnam Flack, age 84, of Rutherfordton, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Carolina House of Forest City, NC.
A native of Youngsville, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Otis Debnam and Cherrie Lannie Smith Debnam. At an early age, she joined New Liberty Baptist Church. Bernice worked as a domestic home keeper. In 1946, she was married to the late Luther Flack.
Bernice is survived by her son, Swanee Flack and his wife, Lynn of Hanover, MD; sisters, Lucille Black of Garner, NC, and Gladys M. Perry of Raleigh, NC; brother, Dr. George Debnam of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2013, at Crowe’s Mortuary with Pastor Jeff Conley officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Family and friends will receive the repast after the service at Mountain View Baptist Church, 377 E. Second Street, Rutherfordton, NC. 828-287-7448.

Dazel Baynard, 71, of Union Mills, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at his home.
He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Zeb and Sue Baynard. Dazel was a retired carpenter and of the Methodist Faith.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Odell Baynard and a sister, Modene Sisk.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Baynard; one daughter, Tonya Mitchell of Rutherfordton; a granddaughter, Briana English of Rutherfordton; four sisters, Joyce Dobbins of Gilkey, Una Glance of Forest City, Frieda Parker of Union Mills and Kay Webb of Boiling Springs, SC; three brothers, Marshall Baynard of Forest City, Carroll Baynard of Rutherfordton and David Baynard of Rutherfordton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at McMahan's Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow in McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 6 p.m., with Tracy Wilson officiating.

Weldon Lee McCurry
Weldon Lee McCurry, 69, of Marion and formerly of Casar, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Sunrise Rehabilitation and Care in Nebo with his loving family by his side.
A native of Rutherford County, Lee was born on October 5, 1943, to the late Lee Brian and Nora Owens McCurry. He retired from Royster Oil Company in Forest City and served the public as a police officer in both Rutherford County and Spindale. A grandson, Joshua Lee McCurry, preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 33 years, Lana Whitworth McCurry of the home; a son, Ricky Lee McCurry and wife, Sheila of Shelby; a daughter, Michele Evans and husband, Johnny of Chocowinity; a brother, Jim McCurry and wife, Polly of Taylorsville; a sister, Blanche Pressley of Forest City; a grandson, Dillon McCurry; a great-granddaughter, Aryanna McCurry; and a number of loving nieces.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of McDowell, 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752 as an alternative to flowers.
